PESHAWAR:

The Advocate General's Office of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has declared the prosecution's proposed appeal against the acquittal of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers in the Peshawar Central Jail attack case as "unfit" and not worthy of submission.

The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) Peshawar had acquitted PTI leaders and workers Irfan Saleem, Ismatullah, Muhammad Jalal, Sajjad Bangash, Sadiq Khan, and Allama Iqbal on September 9 due to lack of concrete evidence. The accused were charged with allegedly attacking the Central Jail within the jurisdiction of East Police Station.

Following the acquittal, the prosecution had prepared an appeal, arguing that the trial court had ignored CCTV footage and other evidence, and referred the file to the Advocate General's Office on September 27.

However, Advocate General Shah Faisal Uthmankhel, after reviewing the file sent by Additional Advocate General Ayub Zaman, ruled that the appeal was legally unsustainable and could not be filed.

He further clarified that no such appeal would be moved in the Peshawar High Court and noted that the Advocate General's Office had similarly rejected appeals in several May 9-related cases as well.
