Tragedy struck Bajaur's Mamond tehsil on Saturday when four children were killed and five others injured after an abandoned explosive device left behind by terrorists detonated in Laghari area.
According to police and local sources, the children, unaware of the danger, began playing with the device when it exploded with a deafening blast. Rescue teams and security forces rushed to the scene, moving the injured to a nearby hospital where several remain in critical condition.
The incident comes just weeks after a disturbing video went viral showing terrorists, described by authorities as Khawarij, engaging with children in the same area. Security officials said the latest tragedy highlights the continuing dangers posed by explosives planted or abandoned during terrorist activities. Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the site and launched an investigation to determine the origins of the device. Officials confirmed that forensic teams have been deployed to collect evidence while bomb disposal units are conducting a sweep of the surrounding areas to ensure no further devices remain.
Local residents expressed grief and anger, saying the incident once again underscores how innocent lives are paying the price of militant violence. "Our children are not safe even when they are playing outside their homes," one villager lamented.
