The Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad has decided to cancel the registrations of all vehicles that have failed to pay motor vehicle taxes and related dues.

According to the department, red notices have been issued to all vehicle owners registered in Islamabad District. The notices state that the registrations of vehicles whose owners have not submitted their motor vehicle taxes by June 30, 2025, have been suspended.

Furthermore, if the owners fail to clear their dues and obtain receipts by October 10, their registrations will be permanently cancelled.

The department clarified that once cancelled, the registrations will only be restored after the payment of heavy fines along with the outstanding taxes. To facilitate the recovery of these dues, special counters have been established.

A spokesperson for the Excise Department confirmed that this action is being taken under the Motor Vehicle Ordinance 1965. The department has made it clear that no concession will be granted after October 10.

Separately, Islamabad Traffic Police has announced that drivers without a valid driving licence will face strict legal action starting October 1. Offenders will not only be arrested but also have their vehicles impounded.

Islamabad IGP Ali Nasir Rizvi has issued clear directives to traffic police officials to implement the crackdown. After October 1, any driver found without a license will be booked under a case and taken into custody.

According to the new rules, both the driver and the vehicle will be detained at the police station. This applies to both private and government drivers.
