The latest Borderlands 4 patch has drawn mixed reactions from players, with many reporting new performance problems despite Gearbox Software’s claims of improvements.
The update was intended to deliver stability fixes, improved performance, and gameplay adjustments, but a significant number of players have experienced reduced frame rates and stuttering since installing it.
According to reports on Steam, Reddit, and X, the issues appear widespread, though some users say their experience has improved or remained unchanged.
Others have noted that clearing the shader cache has provided temporary relief, though it remains unclear whether this relates to the most recent update or an ongoing issue.
Gearbox acknowledged the concerns shortly after the patch went live. “Stuttering issues should resolve over time as the shaders continue to compile in the background while playing,” the studio posted on X.
“If you’re still experiencing issues after 15 minutes of continuous play, you can also clear your shader cache via your video card manufacturer’s approved method.” The studio also encouraged affected players to submit support tickets.
The patch notes outlined a wide range of fixes, including stability improvements, reduced instances of low frame rates, and corrections to crashes and infinite loading screens.
Updates were also made to character abilities, gear behaviour, and mission progression, alongside adjustments to in-game rewards and clarity in DLC content.
Despite these measures, performance remains a major point of contention among the community. Borderlands 4 continues to hold mixed reviews on Steam, with stability cited as a recurring issue since launch. Gearbox has confirmed that further updates are in development to address these concerns.
For now, the studio maintains that performance should improve as shaders finish compiling in the background during extended play sessions.
