Fatal road accident in Dera Ismail Khan claims 11 lives

Brake failure causes the crash; Rescue 1122 confirms recovery of seven bodies

At least 11 members of a family were killed in a tragic road accident in Dera Ismail Khan after their vehicle’s brakes failed on the way to Danasar, officials said on Friday.

The family was travelling from Khanozai in Balochistan when the accident occurred. Rescue 1122 teams rushed to the site and recovered seven bodies, including five women, one man and one child.

All the deceased were shifted to a nearby hospital, while efforts continued to trace and recover the remaining victims.

Three individuals were injured, who were provided with first aid on site and then shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital Dera Ismail Khan. The injured people included 27-year-old Darya Khan, 10-year-old Yousaf and 25-year-old Ahmad.

District Emergency Officer Engineer Faseehullah expressed deep grief and sorrow over this tragic accident and prayed for the departed.

Accidents have become more and more common in Pakistan due to a multitude of reasons. Bad road conditions, reckless driving and loose monitoring of traffic rules. At least 12 people were killed and 13 injured when a 22-wheeler lorry lost control and ploughed into multiple vehicles at Ambiri Kala Chowk on the Indus Highway in Karak, local authorities said in January. A fatal road accident on the Karakoram Highway (KKH) near Lady Garden in September, exposed the entrenched weaknesses of Abbottabad's traffic management system. A 10-wheeler dumper ploughed into a group of schoolchildren attempting to cross the busy highway. Three children, including two sisters, died instantly, while five others sustained critical injuries. All of the victims were from the same family, residents of Banda Phagwarian, a nearby village.
