Twitch CEO Dan Clancy has responded to security concerns at TwitchCon San Diego after streamers Valkyrae and QTCinderella said they would not attend due to safety fears.
TwitchCon is scheduled for October 17–19 in San Diego, one of the platform’s largest annual events for creators and their communities.
However, Valkyrae and QTCinderella confirmed during their Wine About It podcast with guest Pokimane that they were pulling out, citing concerns about security.
“I’m kind of afraid to go to TwitchCon,” Valkyrae said on the podcast. “I’ve been so anxious and scared and sad this whole past week with everything that’s been going on.”
QTCinderella added: “We’re in a bit of a conundrum. We’re supposed to do Wine About It live at TwitchCon. Respectfully, I don’t feel irrational about it. I feel very scared.”
The discussion referenced the death of Japanese streamer Airi Sato, who was killed during a live broadcast in March 2025, as well as other incidents involving threats and attacks on female streamers this year.
In March, Valkyrae, Emiru and Cinna were threatened during an IRL broadcast at Santa Monica Pier, while Amouranth’s home was broken into by armed intruders.
On September 24, Clancy addressed the matter directly. “I want to be very clear; we take security at our events, like TwitchCon, extremely seriously. Every year, we build on successful approaches to TwitchCon safety and security, particularly as we become aware of new or emerging security or safety challenges,” he said.
Clancy stated that Twitch has teams dedicated to safety year-round and that TwitchCon enforces a zero-tolerance policy on harassment. He also noted that indefinitely suspended users are barred from attending.
Valkyrae, QTCinderella and Pokimane have yet to respond to Clancy’s statement.
