Gandapur visits Bara after Tirah tragedy

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur on Wednesday visited Bara in Khyber district, where he met with senior leaders of the Bara Political Alliance and held discussions on the prevailing situation.

Members of the provincial and national assemblies from the district, along with the K-P Chief Secretary, Peshawar Commissioner, and other officials, were also present.

The meeting focused on the recent tragic incident in Tirah, which claimed around two dozen lives. Chief Minister Gandapur offered prayers for the elevation of ranks of those martyred in the attack and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Expressing grief over the loss, he assured the tribal elders of the government's support and commitment to maintaining peace in the region. Community leaders thanked the chief minister for visiting Bara and engaging in dialogue at a critical time. They noted that such interactions were vital for strengthening trust between the government and local communities.

Meanwhile, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott, called on Chief Minister at the CM House in Peshawar on Wednesday. The meeting focused on matters of mutual interest, security in the region, and ongoing welfare and development projects in the province supported by the UK government.

During the discussion, both sides agreed to expand cooperation in the social sector, highlighting the role of British-funded initiatives such as the Sustainable Energy and Economic Development (SEED) and Sub-National Governance (SNG) programmes. The High Commissioner hinted at launching a new programme in K-P to further strengthen collaboration.

Gandapur appreciated the UK's continued support, noting that SEED and SNG had significantly enhanced the capacity of provincial departments.
