Production on Spider-Man 4 has been temporarily halted following an on-set injury sustained by Tom Holland, leading to an estimated £10.5 million loss.
The actor, 29, suffered a mild concussion last Friday during a stunt sequence at Leavesden Studios in Watford. According to the East of England Ambulance Service, they were “called at 10.30 am on Friday to attend to a patient who had sustained an injury at Leavesden Studios in Watford,” before transporting Holland to hospital for further care.
Reports suggest filming will be paused for around a week, with production costs reaching approximately £1.5 million per day. These include wages for cast and crew, studio rental fees, and equipment hire.
Industry sources told the Daily Mail that halting a film of this scale results in major financial strain, describing it as “a huge migraine for the producers and studio.”
Film director Emeka Egbuonu noted that “each day of filming can cost between $1.5 and $2 million. Even when filming halts, many of those costs don’t disappear.” He added that the interruption represents a “significant financial hit” with potential implications for delivery schedules.
Despite the setback, Holland appeared at a charity event in London’s Mayfair over the weekend, supported by fiancée and co-star Zendaya.
The event was held for The Brothers Trust, a charity he runs with his siblings. His father, Dominic Holland, confirmed that the actor would be away from filming “for a while.”
Holland, who first played Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2016), stars again in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the fourth instalment of the franchise. With an estimated £150 million budget, the production faces additional pressure to meet its July release target following the delay.
