BAHAWALNAGAR:

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz assured flood victims of the provincial government's full support during a visit to Bahawalnagar.

She inspected a relief camp set up at the Government Technical Institute and met flood-affected families. Senior officials, MNA Alam Dad Laleka and other local leaders were present on the occasion.

The CM instructed the administration to ensure transparency in relief distribution so that the aid would reach those in need.

However, dozens of people claimed that they had been disallowed entry into the camp on the occasion, although they had suffered losses in the flood.

They alleged that the aid was not reaching all the victims.

The police dispersed the crowd shouting slogans with baton charge. The action caused panic among women and elderly victims.

The chief minister later left for Sahiwal, where she inaugurated an environmentally-friendly electrobus project in Sahiwal.

Provincial Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan said 16 electric buses would be operated in Sahiwal in the first phase on four routes.

He said more than 25,000 passengers would travel on the buses daily, and the fare for each stop has been fixed at Rs 20.
