Tribute paid to poet Rais Amrohvi at 'Farzand-e-Karachi'

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) on Sunday organised a literary gathering titled "Farzand-e-Karachi" at the historic Khaliq Dina Hall to mark the 37th death anniversary of noted poet, journalist and columnist Rais Amrohvi.

The event, held under the patronage of Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, drew a large number of poets, writers and intellectuals who paid glowing tributes to Amrohvi, describing him as a visionary whose intellectual and literary contributions continue to inspire new generations.

Speakers said that Amrohvi was a rare blend of knowledge, thought and literature whose scholarly stature remains unmatched. His writings, they said, are still discussed in intellectual circles and remain relevant in today's era.

Mayor Wahab, addressing the gathering, termed it an honour for the city administration to commemorate Amrohvi's legacy. "We salute his services. He was not only the pride of Karachi but also a national asset. Preserving his literary and intellectual legacy is our collective responsibility," he remarked.

He further said that personalities like Rais Amrohvi were the true treasures of Karachi's cultural and intellectual heritage. Extending his regards to the late poet's family and admirers, the mayor said Amrohvi had carved a distinct identity in Pakistan's literary and journalistic history.

The mayor also announced that historic sites including Khaliq Dina Hall and Frere Hall have now been dedicated for cultural, literary and intellectual activities, adding that KMC planned to hold more such events to revive the city's vibrant image and reconnect youth with their intellectual traditions.
