Segregated waste collection planned
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed the authorities concerned to implement a 'smart' waste management process in government and private educational institutions across the province by placing dustbins of five colours for collecting garbage of different types.
A target has been assigned to Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat and Local Government Minister Zeeshan Rafique for placing the dustbins in all schools by September 30. The chief minister said inspection would begin from October 1 and fines would be imposed for not having the coloured dustbins.
She added that different types of garbage would be collected in different coloured bins. The Punjab Environmental Protection Agency has issued a notification for the purpose.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said the scheme would be implemented across the province later to reduce waste and promote environmentally friendly behaviour.
