Prince Harry’s recent reunion with King Charles III has not altered his royal status.

According to reports, the Duke of Sussex will not be allowed to return as a part-time working royal, despite spending four days in the UK earlier this month.

A royal insider told the Daily Mail that King Charles is firm on upholding Queen Elizabeth II’s original stance that there can be no “half-in, half-out” roles within the monarchy. The clarification comes after speculation that Harry’s visit — which included charity appearances and a private tea with his father — could signal a new working arrangement that would let him live in the United States with Meghan Markle while still performing royal duties.

Sources dismissed the idea, calling suggestions of a new model misleading. “Whoever is behind the Sussexes seems to have mistaken a brief tea and a slice of cake for the Treaty of Versailles,” one insider remarked, criticizing what they described as overly optimistic briefings from the couple’s circle.

The King and Prince William, sources emphasized, remain focused on maintaining stability within the monarchy. The recent state visit of former U.S. President Donald Trump, where he met Charles and William alongside Queen Camilla and Kate Middleton, was cited as evidence of the institution’s current strength.

Despite this, Prince Harry reportedly expressed interest in moving back to the UK with his family. Singer Joss Stone, who spoke with him at the WellChild Awards, said Harry discussed the benefits of British schools and community life for children.

Harry and Meghan stepped down as senior royals in 2020 and have since lived in Montecito, California, with their children Archie and Lilibet.
