Tom Holland has said he would be open to stepping away from the role of Spider-Man in the future, suggesting he would be “so content swinging off into the sunset” if he could help introduce a new actor to take over the character.

Holland, 29, first appeared as Peter Parker in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War in 2016 and has since starred in three standalone Spider-Man films, along with appearances in other Marvel Cinematic Universe projects.

He is also set to reprise the role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, scheduled for release in July.

Speaking to Empire, Holland said he would like to play a role in transitioning the character to a new generation of actors, referencing potential successors such as Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen or Spider-Woman.

“For whoever's next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,” he said. “Whatever that looks like, I don't know."

"But, if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset," he continued, referring to Robert Downey Jr.’s role as Tony Stark in guiding his early Marvel appearances.

Holland is the third actor to portray Peter Parker in major live-action films, following Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, both of whom appeared alongside him in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

His tenure as Spider-Man includes Homecoming, Far From Home and No Way Home, as well as appearances in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. He also made a brief appearance in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
