As controversy surrounding D4vd intensifies, one of his earliest tracks is taking on a life of its own. The 2022 breakout single Romantic Homicide has leapt 102 places on Spotify’s Global Top 50, climbing to number 42 worldwide and number 13 in the US. The eerie resurgence comes just days after authorities confirmed the discovery of 15-year-old Celeste Rivas’s body in a Tesla linked to the singer.

The song, which has already amassed more than 1.7 billion streams, is being re-examined by listeners in light of recent events. Online discussion has centred heavily on the lyrics, particularly the chilling refrain “in the back of my mind, I killed you,” with some suggesting that fans can no longer separate the music from the unfolding investigation.

A viral post on X argued, “Amidst all the recent allegations, listening back to Romantic Homicide is uncomfortable, it feels like a confession.” Others have pointed out that the track was released on the same date as Celeste’s birthday, fuelling speculation about hidden meaning and intent. One listener even suggested that Burke’s claim to have recorded the song in a single take reflected a subconscious state tied to darker impulses.

Fans divided over the track’s sudden success have also noted how its renewed momentum reflects the morbid curiosity surrounding scandal. While some stream the song to analyse its possible links to Burke’s personal life, others condemn the attention as exploitative. “This is not normal,” one post read, “a tragedy shouldn’t turn into chart fuel.”

Despite the backlash, the numbers continue to surge. Chartmetric reported that Burke’s listener base jumped by more than 250% in a single day, with Romantic Homicide now the centrepiece of renewed scrutiny. As speculation builds, what was once a career-making track has become an unsettling soundtrack to a scandal that shows no signs of fading.
