SPSC resumes hiring drive
The Sindh Public Service Commission (SPSC) has appointed more than 6,000 candidates across 31 government departments during 2024, resuming recruitment following earlier disruptions. Chairman Muhammad Wasim presents the annual report of the SPSC for 2024 at the CM House on Friday.
According to the report, recruitment resumed in September 2022 under the SPSC Act 2022. A new headquarters was established in Hyderabad, while a computer-based testing lab with capacity for 500 candidates is set to become operational in January 2025.
Between July 2022 and June 2025, the commission conducted 109 written examinations for 4,743 vacancies and 10,270 backlog posts. A total of 381,960 candidates appeared, out of which 26,722 qualified. Of them, 25,921 were interviewed and 6,077 were appointed in 2024 alone. Appointments included women and men medical officers, staff nurses, lecturers, subject specialists, town officers, headmasters, and accountants. The report notes that 1,282 appointments were recommended in 2022, 5,572 in 2023, 6,077 in 2024, and 5,629 in the first half of 2025 — making 18,560 in total over three years.
To ensure transparency, SPSC set up a strong room to prevent paper leaks, introduced online document submission, enforced mandatory waiting lists, and enacted strict anti-malpractice rules with penalties of up to five years. The restored urban-rural quota system has also been enforced.
Financially, the commission was allocated Rs1.135 billion for FY 2023-24, of which Rs1.086 billion was spent. Examination fees generated Rs73.2 million, while Rs59.1 million were refunded due to unfilled vacancies. Development allocations included Rs1.363 billion for the Secretariat Complex and Rs50 million for strengthening SPSC, of which Rs3.92 million was utilised.
