FATA Jirga in Tirah rejects K-P merger

.

KHYBER:

In Khyber's Tirah Valley, a major Jirga was convened under the banner of the FATA Grand Jirga to oppose the merger with Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, with prominent elders and tribal leaders from various regions of the former FATA participating in large numbers. The elders were warmly received upon arrival in Tirah Valley, and the local population turned out in great strength to attend the gathering.

Speaking at the Jirga, participants categorically rejected the existing system, stating that the former tribal system of FATA, which included the Jirga and tribal customs, was a cheaper, more effective, and practical model. According to them, the current thana-katcheri (police-station and court) culture is a failed, costly, and complicated system that provides neither justice nor peace. They said this system has completely failed to provide relief to the people and has already been rejected by the public across Pakistan.

The tribal elders argued that the Jirga system is unique in the world, built upon traditions, justice, and brotherhood. Therefore, they demanded that the FATA merger be undone and the old tribal system restored, so that people could once again have access to affordable, speedy, and locally based justice.

The residents of Tirah Valley added that they continue to live according to their tribal way of life, resolving disputes and issues through Jirgas rather than turning to the courts. In their view, this lifestyle remains acceptable and effective, as it is grounded in peace, brotherhood, and mutual respect.

At the conclusion, FATA Grand Jirga President Malik Bismillah Khan, along with Malik Khan Marjan Wazir, Malik Muhammad Hussain, Malik Abdul Razzaq, Azam Khan Mehsud, Alf Khan, and others, thanked all participants and expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended.
