Netflix has a strong track record with gripping crime dramas like Ozark, Mindhunter, and Ripley — and its latest release, Black Rabbit, fits right in. Dropping today, the eight-episode series is a stylish, high-stakes thriller that blends family drama, mob tension, and culinary chaos in one addictive package.
Created by Zach Baylin and Kate Susman, Black Rabbit stars Jude Law as Jake, a successful New York restaurateur whose hotspot, "Black Rabbit," is on the verge of taking off. But just as his career is about to level up, his estranged brother Vince (Jason Bateman) re-enters his life, bringing baggage, bad decisions, and explosive consequences.
The dynamic between the brothers is central to the show — Jake is composed and ambitious, while Vince is unpredictable, chaotic, and emotionally volatile. Their relationship recalls Mean Streets, with Jake as the grounded counterpart to Vince’s live-wire energy, much like De Niro and Keitel’s characters in the Scorsese classic.
The series also echoes The Bear, capturing the intense pressure of running a restaurant, from supply issues to kitchen drama. And much like Uncut Gems, the tension builds relentlessly as the stakes rise and the characters scramble to stay afloat.
Bateman shines as Vince, a deeply flawed but strangely endearing character. While his impulsive choices often endanger those around him — especially Jake — Bateman brings a vulnerability that makes Vince hard to hate, even when he's at his worst.
With strong performances, stylish direction, and mounting suspense, Black Rabbit is a must-watch for fans of gritty, character-driven drama. If you're into stories about ambition, family dysfunction, and barely contained chaos — this one should be at the top of your Netflix queue.
