The 2025 Emmy Awards saw actors and performers draw attention not only for their wins and red-carpet style but also for dramatic physical transformations that reignited debate around the use of Ozempic in Hollywood.
Plastic surgeons reviewing photos from the event suggested that several celebrities may have turned to the drug, a GLP-1 medication originally designed for diabetes, to support weight loss.
Dr Smita Ramandham noted that the changes are often less drastic than in the past, with many stars appearing “a bit more fit, and just a bit slimmer” compared with previous appearances.
Sydney Sweeney became a focal point after gaining 30 pounds for her portrayal of boxer Christy Martin, only to reappear noticeably slimmer at the Emmys.
Dr Ramandham suggested that “anything that involves rapid weight loss these days typically will involve some sort of GLP1 medication,” though representatives for Sweeney denied any use of Ozempic.
Selena Gomez also drew speculation after appearing leaner, particularly around her arms and shoulders. While some experts pointed to possible medical assistance, Gomez has previously spoken openly about weight changes linked to lupus treatment. Actor Walton Goggins was also highlighted for his more defined frame.
Veteran star Kathy Bates has confirmed using Ozempic to lose the final portion of more than 100 pounds, admitting: “It took me years to do this.” Dr Raja Mohan cautioned that significant weight loss can lead to skin laxity, a side effect now visible in some cases.
Jennifer Coolidge, meanwhile, joked on stage about her “prescription not working,” further fuelling speculation, while appearances by Jenna Ortega, Cate Blanchett, and Catherine O’Hara prompted similar questions about subtle weight shifts.
As more stars address or deny speculation, experts note that Ozempic remains a persistent topic shaping Hollywood’s conversation on health and body image.
