Lionsgate has released the trailer for The Housemaid, the upcoming psychological thriller adapted from Freida McFadden’s best-selling novel.
Directed by Paul Feig, the film will open in cinemas on December 19, 2025, having shifted from its original Christmas Day slot.
Sydney Sweeney stars as Millie, a woman seeking a fresh start by working as a live-in housemaid for wealthy couple Nina and Andrew Winchester. Amanda Seyfried portrays Nina, while Brandon Sklenar plays Andrew. Michele Morrone also joins the cast as the gardener, adding to the tense dynamic within the Winchester household.
The trailer features Nina handing Millie a bedroom key, assuring her that it will help her feel “safe.” However, the tension builds as Morrone’s character lurks outside, hinting that not everything in the Winchester residence is as it seems. The trailer is set to a haunting reimagining of Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please,” enhancing the suspense.
Behind the camera, Rebecca Sonnenshine has adapted the screenplay, with Todd Lieberman and Carly Kleinbart Elter producing for Hidden Pictures. Feig is producing alongside Laura Fischer for Feigco, with executive production from Sweeney, Seyfried, Alex Young, and McFadden herself.
With its combination of a bestselling source material, acclaimed cast, and Feig’s direction, the film is positioned as one of Lionsgate’s most anticipated releases of the year.
