The widow of actor Tony Todd has spoken out after his exclusion from the 2025 Emmy Awards’ “In Memoriam” tribute.
Todd, who died in November 2024 following a battle with cancer, was absent from the broadcast segment honouring industry figures who passed away over the last year.
During the ceremony, Vince Gill and Lainey Wilson performed "Go Rest High On That Mountain" as photos of late stars appeared on screen. Todd was not included, prompting a statement from his widow, Fatima Cortez Todd, who criticised the omission.
“Tony had a long list of TV credits, but he was not respected as much by the industry he gave his artistic life. He was classically trained and always given great support by his fans. Ultimately, he gave his all because he loved his work. Many times he was told that he should have had a role he didn’t get. He still maintained his generosity of spirit. The award shows look over many who should be honoured. That’s on them,” she said in comments to Entertainment Weekly.
Todd built a distinguished career across film and television. He was widely recognised for his role in Candyman and appeared in Star Trek: The Next Generation, The X-Files, 24, The Flash, Criminal Minds, The Young and the Restless, and The Orville. His final performance came in Final Destination: Bloodlines, completed while undergoing treatment.
The TV Academy later confirmed Todd’s name is included in its full online memorial list.
