Miley Cyrus is set to release a deeply personal new song titled “Secrets” this Friday (September 19), a track she wrote as a birthday gift for her father, country star Billy Ray Cyrus. The heartfelt single, teased on social media earlier this month, features musical contributions from Fleetwood Mac icons Mick Fleetwood and Lindsey Buckingham.

In an Instagram post shared on Tuesday (Sept. 16), Miley offered a short a cappella preview of the track, singing the lyric, “Anywhere you go / You know I’ll follow,” as layered backing vocals harmonized behind her. The video clip shows her staring directly into the camera, her head wrapped in gauze-like material, with wind blowing white fabric across her face—suggesting a symbolic or emotional theme to the upcoming single.

Originally teased in June during an episode of Monica Lewinsky’s podcast, Miley described “Secrets” as a way of processing long-standing emotional tension with her father. “I wrote this song about my dad because I wanted him to tell me… even though there were secrets, even though I didn’t really want to know,” she explained. The lyrics include lines such as: “Secrets, I want to keep your secrets / Like sunlight in the shadows / Like footsteps in the grass.”

Cyrus said the song was also an attempt to show her father that she could be a safe space for honesty. “I wanted him to think that, as a middle child, I’m old enough that I could take some of that,” she told Lewinsky.

Billy Ray had previously described the track as a “gift of music” from his daughter, celebrating his 64th birthday.

Meanwhile, Noah Cyrus recently addressed rumors of family discord following the 2022 breakup of Billy Ray and Tish Cyrus. In an interview with People, Noah clarified that despite the speculation, “everybody’s great and loves each other,” and that she personally keeps her distance from family drama.
