Efforts underway to divide PTI: Gandapur

K-P CM says powers that be blocking leaders' meetings with Imran Khan

RAWALPINDI:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has claimed that the establishment wants to create a split in the PTI by preventing meetings between party leaders and incarcerated PTI founder Imran Khan.

"Unfortunately, some of our people also fall for that agenda," Gandapur said on Monday while talking to the media outside Rawalpindi's Adiala Jail, where Imran Khan has been detained for the last two years.

The K-P chief minister came to the prison facility along with his provincial cabinet to meet Imran but police stopped them at Gorakhpur Nakkal and he had later to return without a meeting.

Speaking to the media, the CM said they would not hold a cabinet meeting at that location. "Meetings are not held like this," he said, adding that the PML-N led Punjab government can only block the route.

He said authorities refuse to allow their meeting with Imran after keeping them waiting four or five hours. "I was working in flood-affected areas and this waste of time carries a cost," he said.

Gandapur said they were also denied a meeting with the PTI founder when they wanted to discuss with him the Mining Bill and the Budget Bill. "Had I been able to meet Imran Khan, there would have been transparency and people's doubts would have been cleared," he said.

The chief minister added that meetings were also blocked over the Senate elections and now they are obstructing meetings related to the Bajaur issue.

"They want meetings to be stopped so confusion keeps increasing," he said.

Asked what he might do in response to being denied a meeting, he replied: "Should I break open the jail? I could do that, but what would it achieve?"

He criticized the PML-N, saying it should be ashamed for making remarks at funerals of the soldiers martyred while fighting terrorists. "The PML-N politicizes everything. There is no real democracy in the country—assemblies are fabricated. It is not about attending funerals; people should have a conscience. Instead of focusing on our people's sacrifices, they should fix their policies," he said.
