DERA GHAZI KHAN:

A district and sessions court in Dera Ghazi Khan has handed down death and life sentences to two brothers convicted in a double murder case stemming from a land dispute.

District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Abbas awarded two death sentences to accused Jehangir Burmani, along with a fine of Rs1 million payable to the heirs of the victims.

In case of non-payment, he will serve an additional six months in prison. His brother and co-accused, Aurangzeb Burmani, was sentenced to two life terms and fined Rs1 million. Failure to pay will also add six months to his sentence.

According to the prosecution, the incident occurred in the Chah Nahon Wala area of Mauza Chehal Chahan, within the jurisdiction of Chowti Police Station.

The brothers, Jehangir and Aurangzeb, allegedly stormed into a house and opened indiscriminate fire on Ghulam Zahra and Sadia Bibi during a heated land dispute.

Both women sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the trauma center at Allama Iqbal Teaching Hospital.

Ghulam Zahra succumbed to her injuries shortly after, while Sadia Bibi continued treatment but later died as well.

Following the incident, Chowti police registered a case, arrested the two accused brothers, and submitted the challan in court.

After a full trial, Judge Abbas ruled that the prosecution had successfully established the charges, leading to the severe sentences announced on Monday.
