Netflix sets release date for ‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’ starring Charlie Hunnam
Netflix has confirmed the release date for Monster: The Ed Gein Story, the third installment in Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s true-crime anthology series. The season will premiere globally on October 3, 2025.
Charlie Hunnam stars as Ed Gein, the notorious 1950s Wisconsin killer whose crimes inspired some of the most iconic horror films in history, including Psycho, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs. Netflix also unveiled first-look photos and character posters featuring Hunnam in the chilling role.
According to Netflix’s official description, the season explores Gein’s transformation from a reclusive farm dweller to one of the most infamous figures in American criminal history. Driven by isolation, obsession with his mother, and severe psychosis, Gein’s actions shocked the nation and left a lasting cultural legacy in the horror genre.
The cast includes Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Suzanna Son, Joey Pollari, and Robin Weigert. Hunnam also serves as an executive producer alongside Murphy, Brennan, Max Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Louise Shore, and Carl Franklin. Brennan wrote the season and directed two episodes, while Winkler directed six.
Previous seasons in the anthology include Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (2022), which earned six Emmy nominations, and Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story (2024), currently nominated for 11 Emmy Awards.
Netflix has also confirmed a fourth installment, Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, starring Ella Beatty.
