Adam Brody offered fresh insight into wife Leighton Meester’s upcoming role in Nobody Wants This Season 2 while attending the 2025 Emmy Awards.

The actor, nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for his portrayal of a rabbi in the Netflix show, described watching her performance as a memorable experience.

“The truth of the matter is, most of her scenes are with Justine [Lupe] and Kristen [Bell],” Brody told PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly’s Red Carpet Live show. “So I got to kind of be a bystander and watch, which is even sometimes even more fun because I get to admire.”

Meester was announced as a guest star in February 2025. Series creator Erin Foster praised her work earlier this year, telling PEOPLE, “I don’t know if anyone knows. She’s a comedic genius. She’s so funny. She blew our minds. We were like, ‘Do we write more of her in?’ She’s so good.”

Nobody Wants This follows the complex relationship between a podcast host played by Kristen Bell and a rabbi portrayed by Brody. The series secured three Emmy nominations this year, including Outstanding Comedy Series and a nod for Bell in the lead actress category.

The show has been acclaimed for its witty exploration of modern identity, faith and relationships. Foster added that Meester brought a new energy to the ensemble, noting, “She’s done comedies, but she’s so funny in this. It was just a different energy that I’d never seen before.”

Brody, who has been married to Meester for over a decade, said watching her on set gave him the rare opportunity to appreciate her work as both a partner and a colleague.
