The Lahore High Court on Monday sought a detailed report from the police in a rape case involving Rajab Butt and others, while hearing the bail petition of co-accused Salman Haider.
Justice Jawad Zafar presided over the hearing and directed the relevant superintendent of police to submit a report by September 19.
The investigating officer (IO) told the court that Haider had been found guilty during the inquiry.
However, the complainant’s counsel argued that the investigation suffered from serious flaws, claiming that co-accused Rajab Butt and Man Dogar were wrongly cleared of charges.
He said the authorities had not explained the basis on which those suspects were released.
The lawyer further alleged that data was erased from the mobile phones of the complainant and her sister. He urged the court to reject Haider’s bail plea.
The defence argued that the Nawab Town police registered the case on false grounds and requested that Haider’s interim bail be confirmed. The court adjourned the hearing after ordering the police report.
