The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles were not only a celebration of television but also a platform for political expression, as several stars used their appearances to call for a ceasefire in Gaza.

Hannah Einbinder, who won Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy for Hacks, wore an Artists4Ceasefire pin and ended her acceptance speech with the words. “Go birds, f**k ICE and free Palestine.”

Backstage, she explained that she felt it was her duty “as a Jewish person to distinguish Jews from the state of Israel” and highlighted the humanitarian work of her friends in Gaza.

Spanish actor Javier Bardem, nominated for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, walked the red carpet wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh.

Speaking to THR, he said he “cannot work with someone who justifies or supports the genocide,” adding that losing work was “irrelevant compared to what is going on there.”

Megan Stalter, also from Hacks, carried a handbag marked “Ceasefire!” in bold writing.

Other attendees showing support included Aimee Lou Wall and Natasha Rothwell from The White Lotus, Ruth Negga of Presumed Innocent and Chris Perfetti from Abbott Elementary, who also wore the red Artists4Ceasefire pin. The campaign urges the US government to call for “an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel before another life is lost.”

The Artists4Ceasefire symbol has appeared regularly on red carpets since 2023, including the Oscars. Its organisers say it amplifies the global call for a permanent ceasefire, the release of hostages, and humanitarian aid delivery.
