Prices skyrocket amid govt failure
Price control magistrates and the Rawalpindi district administration have failed to curb the spiraling inflation, leading to a continuous surge in the cost of essential goods.
Items such as flour, wheat, dairy, meat, and vegetables are now unaffordable for many residents.
In the open market, live chicken is sold at Rs420 per kg, chicken meat at Rs730 per kg, eggs at Rs308 per dozen, milk at Rs220 per litre, yogurt at Rs240 per kg, mutton at Rs2,400 per kg, and beef at Rs1,450 per kg.
Pulses and grains are also significantly more expensive, with white chickpeas at Rs410 per kg, rice at Rs450 per kg, gram lentils at Rs380 per kg, and mash lentils at Rs560 per kg.
Other key items include sugar at Rs190 per kg, a 20kg flour sack at Rs2,300, cooking oil at Rs500 per litre, and tea leaves at Rs2,000 per kg. Prices of vegetables and fruits have also soared, with tomatoes being sold at Rs140 per kg, lemons at Rs500 per kg, green peas at Rs600 per kg, and bananas between Rs110 to 200 per dozen.
The price of a 79kg flour bag has increased by a record Rs3,000.
Despite these alarming numbers, the district administration appears unable to enforce any effective control, further worsening the economic burden on citizens.
