A suspected dacoit with a criminal record of 38 cases was injured in the Gulberg area, during a police encounter with officials blaming a bullet fired by accomplices of the deceased for his death.

The suspect was taken into custody and shifted to a hospital.

The police launched a search operation to apprehend his fleeing accomplices.

According to the police, Gulberg SHO Adeel Akram Cheema had set up a checkpoint at ABC Bridge where four suspicious men on two motorcycles were signaled to stop.

Instead of complying, they opened fire on the police and tried to flee on their motorcycles.

The police chased them, and the suspects entered Kamalabad Graveyard, continuing to fire at the police.

Additional police force surrounded the graveyard and ordered the suspects to surrender, but they continued firing.

During the exchange of fire, Zeeshan alias Shani Chitta, a resident of Chak No. 64-GB in Jaranwala, was injured in the leg by a bullet allegedly fired by his accomplices.

He was taken into custody by the police and shifted to the Allied Hospital.

According to the police, a pistol and a motorcycle were seized from the suspect.

The recovered motorcycle had been snatched from the Gulberg area, and a case had been registered in the local police station in this regard.

A case has been registered. The police said they were raiding various places to arrest the accomplices of the detained suspect.
