Erin Bates, known from the reality series Bringing Up Bates, has been discharged from the hospital nearly three weeks after suffering severe health complications following the birth of her seventh child, Henry Blythe Paine.
Bates, 34, developed a urinary tract infection and kidney infection shortly after giving birth on August 25, which led to septic shock and a prolonged ICU stay. On September 13, her husband Chad Paine announced her discharge in an Instagram post, sharing photos of Bates and baby Henry leaving the hospital. “After almost three weeks in the hospital, I have never been so thankful to finally head home to our babies,” Paine wrote. “We don’t have all the answers yet, and I still don’t have function in my right leg, but we are choosing to count every blessing — especially the gift of being together again.”
Earlier updates from Paine revealed that Bates had also suffered a “lengthy and severe seizure” during her hospitalization, which added further complications to her recovery. On September 4, he shared that despite some initial improvement in her infection, her condition took a turn, leaving doctors searching for answers as she remained extremely weak and semi-conscious.
Bates’ parents, Gil and Kathy Bates, also spoke out, sharing that Erin’s condition changed frequently, making it difficult to provide clear updates. They described the emotional toll on the family, expressing gratitude for the outpouring of love and support.
During Bates’ hospital stay, family and friends rallied around the couple’s seven children — Carson, Brooklyn, Everly, Holland, Finley, William, and newborn Henry. Paine praised their support, saying, “You have carried us in ways we can’t even put into words.”
Despite continued health uncertainties, the family remains optimistic. “Your prayers have carried us through and mean the world to our family,” Bates shared in her own Instagram message.
Erin Bates and Chad Paine first rose to public attention through Bringing Up Bates, which followed the lives of the Bates family and aired from 2015 to 2021.
