New details have emerged in the federal investigation into the assassination of right-wing commentator Charlie Kirk, revealing a surprising possible connection to the video game Helldivers 2. During a Friday morning news conference, Utah Governor Spencer Cox disclosed that bullets found near the crime scene bore markings, including symbols matching a military Stratagem from last year’s popular sci-fi extraction game.
Investigators, citing Discord messages from the suspect, believe the shooter engraved these markings on the bullets used in the attack at Utah Valley University earlier this week. Authorities recovered a scoped bolt-action rifle and unfired bullets with engraved casings in a nearby wooded area.
One bullet casing reportedly featured the phrase “Hey fascists! Catch!” alongside an up arrow, right arrow, and three down arrows. While these symbols might seem random to most, Helldivers 2 players recognized them as the input sequence for the Eagle 500kg Bomb stratagem, a command in the game that calls down a powerful explosive strike.
It remains unclear whether the suspected shooter, Tyler Robinson, intended the engraving as a direct Helldivers 2 reference or what relevance it might have had to the crime. Robinson was recently arrested in connection with the assassination.
