KARACHI:

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily suspended its operation to Canada, citing scheduled maintenance of aircraft on long-haul flights.

According to the PIA spokesperson, the decision has been taken to carry out essential technical inspections and replacement of parts on the airline’s two Boeing 777 aircraft capable of flying nonstop for up to 17 hours across the Pacific Ocean.

The aircraft will undergo maintenance for a period of three weeks, a process deemed mandatory every ten years as per international aviation standards.

“The move is aimed at ensuring the aircraft are fully fit and operational ahead of the anticipated surge in passenger traffic next month,” the spokesperson said.

The airline has expressed regret over the inconvenience caused to the passengers but emphasised that the safety of travelers and the operational readiness of its fleet remain the airline’s top priorities.
