Spike Chunsoft has officially announced Danganronpa 2×2, a revamped and expanded version of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, set to launch in 2026 for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. The announcement was revealed during the September 2025 Nintendo Direct, where fans got their first look at the updated game via an official teaser trailer.
Originally released in 2012, Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair followed a group of elite high school students trapped on a tropical island and forced into a deadly "Killing Game" orchestrated by the sinister Monokuma. To escape, students must murder each other and then survive a Class Trial without being caught. If the killer goes undiscovered, they walk free—if not, they face execution.
Danganronpa 2×2 brings back this high-stakes gameplay with a modernized visual presentation and an entirely new story mode. According to Spike Chunsoft, this alternate scenario retains the original cast and setting on Jabberwock Island but introduces a different chain of events triggered by a pivotal incident. This leads to new murder cases, new culprits, and new Class Trials. The alternate story is said to offer as much content as the original game.

In addition to the new narrative, the original story from Goodbye Despair has been enhanced with upgraded visuals and production quality, optimized for current-gen platforms. This version aims to provide a more immersive and polished experience for both newcomers and returning fans.
With its mix of updated content and fresh storytelling, Danganronpa 2×2 marks a significant return for the cult-favorite visual novel series. Fans can look forward to re-entering the twisted world of Monokuma and testing their deductive skills once again when the game launches in 2026.
