Caught unaware: Elderly woman drugged and robbed
A little while later when she woke up, she found that she had been robbed of her jewellery.
SUKKUR:
An elderly asthmatic woman, Mai Jari, was on her way home when two men told her that a certain Pir Sahab could heal her.
A little while later when she woke up, she found that she had been robbed of her jewellery. Jari had followed the men and got into a car near a residential plaza at Minara Road. The men drugged her and took off her gold earrings worth Rs60,000.
They let her off at Bunder Road and drove away. Jari told The Express Tribune that one of the men pulled out a handkerchief from his pocket and covered her mouth with it. “I didn’t faint, but felt giddy and my limbs turned limp,” she recalled. “My head was spinning and I sat by the road.” She didn’t go to the police because, “it is seldom of use”. Zari works as a maid in three houses. She has three sons and three daughters but none look after her. Her gold earrings, which the men stole, were for her final rituals when she died. “The men robbed me of my hard earned money.” she said.
