DC Comics has officially cancelled its Red Hood comic series after just one issue, following public backlash over writer Gretchen Felker-Martin's comments regarding the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

The series, which debuted on September 10, 2025, was intended as a mature-rated addition to the DC Universe, featuring Jason Todd and Helena Bertinelli relocating to Louisiana.

Felker-Martin’s comments, made on social media platform BlueSky, included mocking remarks about Kirk’s death, which led to widespread criticism.

DC’s response underscores its commitment to maintaining a respectful and non-hostile environment, aligning with its broader editorial policies.

In a notice sent to comic book retailers, DC stated: “DC Comics cancels existing orders for Red Hood #2 and Red Hood #3, and any orders for future issues of the series. DC Comics will credit retailers for all invoiced copies of Red Hood #1, inclusive of copies that may have already been sold.” Collectors who had pre-ordered the cancelled issues will reportedly receive refunds from their shops.

Fans and comic book communities expressed surprise and disappointment online, noting the creative potential of the series and the team behind it.

DC Comics has not announced whether any of the cancelled storylines will be incorporated into future Batman titles or other projects within the DC Universe.
