Marlon Wayans has confirmed that Scary Movie 6 is in development, sharing details about which modern horror films may be parodied in the upcoming sequel.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, the comedian explained that several major titles from the past decade have inspired the next chapter in the long-running spoof franchise.
“I Know What You Did Last Summer may have something in there. I think the Scream franchise is always a great one. I think Heretic was a wonderful film. Longlegs. Get Out. Nope. There are just so many great horror films to pull from that we plan on having a field day. Sinners,” Wayans said.
Scary Movie 6 is set to return next summer, reuniting the Wayans brothers to once again lead the parody series.
Wayans noted the inclusion of Sinners, directed by Ryan Coogler, which exceeded expectations earlier this year and drew praise for weaving social themes into its horror narrative. He also highlighted Heretic and Longlegs, both of which became breakout successes with audiences.
Other recent titles like Weapons and ongoing franchises such as The Conjuring are also seen as potential sources for parody material.
The original Scary Movie, released in 2000, became a cultural touchstone for its sharp parody of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer.
