Rumors are swirling that Resident Evil 7 and other RE Engine-powered Resident Evil titles are being ported to Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 console, with an official reveal potentially coming during a rumored Nintendo Direct later this month.
On September 3, reliable Resident Evil leaker Dusk Golem shared on ResetEra that Capcom is reportedly working on bringing “all the Resident Evil RE Engine games” to Switch 2. This includes major titles like Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village, and the RE2, RE3, and RE4 remakes. The post was made in response to speculation about the upcoming Resident Evil Requiem possibly launching on both Switch 2 and PS4, suggesting that Capcom is eyeing a broader rollout across hardware generations.
While Dusk Golem couldn’t confirm the specific rumor about Resident Evil 7 being announced at the next Direct, they reiterated having “heard several times now” that native Switch 2 versions — not cloud-based ports — of RE Engine games are in development. The leaker speculated that these ports could be part of Capcom’s 30th anniversary plans for the franchise, but stressed that this was just an educated guess, not confirmed information.
Given that all RE Engine Resident Evil games have already been released on PS4, and the engine is known for being highly scalable, it’s reasonable to believe these ports are feasible for the Switch 2. Capcom has experience with optimizing its games for less powerful hardware, and bringing these hits to a new Nintendo platform could be a smart move.
While fans wait for official confirmation, one thing is certain: even if Switch 2 doesn’t get Resident Evil games right away, a brand-new entry is confirmed to launch next year on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
