Cervical cancer vaccination launched

Vaccine costing more than Rs30,000 per dose to be provided free of charge from Sept 14 to 21 in Sargodha

SARGODHA:

District Health Director Dr Rana Riaz Ahmad said a cervical cancer vaccination campaign would be carried out from September 14 to 21 in Sargodha.

Talking to media, he said the aim of the campaign is to protect girls aged nine to 14 years against cervical cancer through the administration of the vaccine.

Dr Riaz Ahmad said cervical cancer posed a serious challenge to women's health, but timely vaccination could save thousands of lives in future.

"This vaccine, costing more than Rs30,000 per dose, would be provided free of charge by the government to ensure that no child is deprived of protection," he said.

He said 234 teams, each comprising four members, would be mobilised to administer the vaccine in schools, homes and government hospitals across.

In addition, awareness sessions would be organised in three major public sector schools.
