The Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) police chief on Monday prohibited personnel of the force from using the social media platform TikTok, citing concerns over discipline and the image of the department.

A notification issued from the office of the inspector general of police (IGP) stated: "In order to maintain discipline, uniformity and dignity of the force, it is hereby directed that no GB police officer/official shall use social media platform (TikTok)."

The directive instructed all district police officers and unit heads to ensure the order was conveyed to every member under their command. It further warned that any violation would be "viewed seriously and cause disciplinary action".

The ban follows a string of similar measures by law enforcement agencies elsewhere in the country.

In July, two constables of Islamabad's Security Division were suspended and placed under inquiry for allegedly breaching the capital police's social media code by making and uploading TikTok videos while in uniform.

Dozens of lower-ranking officials had also been cautioned and told to delete their TikTok accounts to avoid disciplinary proceedings.

Earlier in March, Punjab Police had issued directions barring its personnel from sharing "offensive views" against the state through personal social media handles.
