Expressing satisfaction over speedy drainage of floodwater from Gujrat, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has that the water level is decreasing rapidly.

She stated that the Fawara Chowk had been cleared of floodwater and the situation in Gujrat city was improving rapidly. "Soon the citizens will get complete relief from this problem," she added.

She said a two-foot eduction in the floodwater level in a day was a success.

The chief minister said work was under way to divert the flow of floodwater with adequate manpower and equipment made available to secure the city in case of more rain or increase in water flow.

She said areas facing obstruction of water flow had been identified with the help of drone cameras, while irrigation officials would conduct research for effective planning in future.

She added that the establishment of Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) in Gujrat would solve the problems of sanitation, drainage and sewerage along with improving the service in the area.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had taken emergency measures to cope with the flood situation in Gujrat, sending there WASA machinery from five major cities.

The provincial secretaries of housing, communications, works, local government and irrigation had also been deputed in the city to ensure effective implementation of emergency measures till improvement of the situation.

The chief minister said water pumps from WASA centres in other cities, including Lahore, had been delivered to Gujrat, whereas more heavy machinery and other essential equipment and staff would also be transported there.

She said,"More machinery will reach Gujrat in next two days." She highlighted that there would be round-the-clock work on an action plan to drain floodwater from Gujrat.
