Kate Middleton has returned to her signature brunette look after debuting a blonde hairstyle earlier in the week. The royal appearance came during the Women’s Rugby World Cup in East Sussex on September 6, where she attended the England vs. Australia clash at the American Express Stadium.
The Princess of Wales wore her hair in a low ponytail, with the darker shade noticeably different from the lighter, blonde-toned highlights she had revealed days earlier while accompanying Prince William.

The change followed significant discussion online, where some critics argued the lighter style did not suit her skin tone, while others speculated about wigs or greying hair.
Her swift return to brunette drew support from fans, with many praising the look at the rugby match. The debate also prompted comments from Princess Diana’s former hairdresser, Sam McKnight, who defended the Princess of Wales.
Writing on Instagram, McKnight said he was “horrified, dismayed, and disgusted by all the nasty comments” and reminded critics that hair is “personal” and deeply connected to confidence. He also highlighted her recent cancer battle, urging people to “leave her alone.”
At the match, Kate supported England while Prince William, patron of the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016, attended a different fixture in Exeter to watch Wales face Fiji. Kate has held the patronage of the Rugby Football Union since 2022, following in the footsteps of Prince Harry.
The couple’s involvement reflects their shared interest in rugby, which William once described as a source of “family rivalry” with their children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
The pair have also recently returned to public duties after the summer break, including an appearance at the Natural History Museum in London.
