Reality TV star Erin Bates is currently in intensive care after suffering a severe seizure, following recent health complications that arose after giving birth to her seventh child. Her husband, Chad Paine, shared the concerning update in an emotional Instagram post on Thursday, September 4.

Erin, 34, delivered her son, Henry Blythe, on August 25 after what Paine previously described as a “long and emotional labor.” Days later, she developed a severe urinary tract infection and kidney infection, which progressed into septic shock. While initial treatments showed signs of improvement, Paine revealed that Erin's condition took a sudden downturn on the night of September 3.

“Last night, Erin suffered a lengthy and severe seizure,” Paine wrote. “She is extremely weak and spent hours only half-conscious.” He added that Erin is now in the ICU as doctors conduct scans and tests to identify the underlying cause of the seizure. “Up to this point, Erin’s infection was getting better, but we found ourselves back in a place of heartache, uncertainty, and tears.”

Paine, 38, described the emotional toll of watching his wife suffer, calling it “one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced.” He continued, “I love her more deeply than words can express, and I can’t even imagine life without my best friend.”

The couple rose to prominence on Bringing Up Bates, the UPtv reality series that followed the lives of Gil and Kelly Jo Bates and their 19 children. The show aired from 2015 to 2021.

Erin’s sister, Michaela Bates, also took to Instagram to thank fans for their support during this difficult time. “We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the outpouring of love, concern and prayer,” she wrote. Michaela shared a photo with baby Henry, calling him “an absolute angel baby.”

Other family members, including Whitney Bates and Lawson Bates, echoed calls for continued prayers, expressing love and hope for Erin’s full recovery.

As of now, Erin remains in the ICU as doctors continue their efforts to diagnose and stabilize her condition.
