Sheinelle Jones made an emotional return to the TODAY Show on Friday, marking her first appearance since the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh, in May. In a heartfelt pre-recorded interview with colleague Savannah Guthrie, Jones opened up about her husband's battle with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer, and how she and their three children are navigating the loss.
“It’s a beautiful nightmare,” Jones said, reflecting on the experience of caring for her husband during his illness. She recalled the full-circle moment of being back by his side, years after their early days together as college sweethearts. “It felt scary. It felt divine. It felt bigger than us,” she added.
Jones described how despite the pain, their bond remained strong. “We would just hold hands… the nurses would come in and call us the lovebirds,” she shared.
Ojeh, 45, passed away in May after a private health battle. Jones had stepped away from her role in January to deal with what she described as a “family health matter.” Guthrie later announced Ojeh’s passing on-air in May, paying tribute to him as “an incredible person” and a devoted partner and father.
The couple, married since 2007, shared three children: Kaylin, 16, and 13-year-old twins Clara and Uche. They would have celebrated their 18th anniversary on September 1.
Jones will officially resume her TODAY Show duties on Monday. During her interview, she offered words of hope for others dealing with grief and personal loss.
