Kelly Clarkson has returned to Instagram for the first time since the death of her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, marking the 23rd anniversary of her American Idol victory.

The singer shared a heartfelt message of gratitude to fans who supported her journey from the very beginning.

“To everyone that took time 23 years ago to call in and vote for me, thank you,” Clarkson wrote, alongside a prayer emoji. “Winning American Idol changed my life and I will be forever grateful for all of you that have supported me for so many years".

Her post was her first since August 6, when she had announced the cancellation of her Las Vegas “Studio Sessions” residency at Caesars Palace to care for her family.

Clarkson and Blackstock married in 2013 and separated in 2020. They shared two children together, daughter River Rose, 11, and son Remy, 9. Blackstock passed away on August 7 aged 48 following a battle with malignant melanoma.

Following his death, Clarkson withdrew from a planned appearance at the Band Together Texas benefit on August 17 and temporarily stepped back from filming the new season of The Voice. Jennifer Hudson filled in for her during production.

The Grammy-winning artist is now preparing for the return of her daytime talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, which is set to launch its seventh season on September 29.
