Hollow Knight: Silksong has only just launched, but the game’s most debated feature has already been addressed by modders.
Fans moved quickly to create a fix that lowers the early-game difficulty, following widespread discussion about the sequel’s balance.
Released on September 4 2025, after years of anticipation, Team Cherry’s Metroidvania sequel immediately drew in hundreds of thousands of players, topping Steam’s most-played charts and even overwhelming digital storefronts at launch.
As players explored Hornet’s adventure, however, a recurring frustration soon emerged. Like the original Hollow Knight, Silksong includes enemies and bosses capable of dealing multiple health points of damage in a single attack.
The difference, players noted, was that these high-damage encounters appeared far earlier in critical paths, while health and damage upgrades were harder to obtain.
The issue sparked heated debate on Reddit, where players questioned whether the difficulty curve was too steep.
In response, Nexus Mods creator Baiker uploaded a modification on September 5 that prevents all enemies and bosses from inflicting more than one pip of damage per hit.
While discussions around difficulty adjustments often divide communities, the reaction to Baiker’s mod has been largely positive.
One player commented, “Wake me up when they make a mod that removes on-hit damage from staggered bosses,” while others suggested environmental hazards were a bigger concern. “I think just a mod that makes all environmental damage do one would be fine for me,” one reply read.
With the mod gaining traction, attention has turned to whether Team Cherry might introduce official balance updates in future patches. For now, players who find Silksong’s early challenges overwhelming have a community-made option to ease the experience.
