LAHORE:

Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Thursday said the tenure of Field Marshal Asim Munir will conclude in 2027, after which the question of extension will arise. He added that field marshal has given the nation a moment of pride in 78 years in the form of Marka-e-Haq.

Speaking to the media at the Punjab Assembly, Sanaullah said climate change is impacting the entire world, noting that once-dry rivers such as the Sutlej and Ravi have now seen a surge of water.

He said the government worked as a team this time, which helped minimise the loss of lives. "All state institutions functioned collectively, and hundreds of thousands of people were evacuated. Had the government not remained alert, the damage would have been far greater."

On the political front, the adviser said attempts to trigger a civil war had been made on May 9, as well as later, but such actions would not be allowed under any circumstances. "No group will be permitted to push the country toward civil war, as it threatens Pakistan's integrity. Such moves must be dealt with strictly," he warned.

Commenting on the tenure of military leadership, Sanaullah noted that while the term for an army chief was once four years before being reduced to three, it has now been extended to five years. "Field Marshal Asim Munir's service will end in 2027. Only then will the question of extension arise," he reiterated.
