IO Interactive, the acclaimed studio behind the Hitman franchise, is officially developing a new James Bond game titled 007 First Light. After more than a decade without a major Bond release, the iconic spy series is finally getting a fresh reboot — and here’s everything we know so far.
Originally announced back in 2020 under the codename Project 007, IO Interactive gave fans only a brief teaser at the time. Fast forward to 2025, and the game was formally unveiled, complete with a confirmed release date: 007 First Light launches on March 27, 2026, across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. It's a current-gen exclusive, with no plans for older consoles.
Preorders come with a range of bonuses, including:
-
24-hour early access
-
Four exclusive outfits
-
One unique weapon skin
-
The “Gleaming Pack” — headphones, notebook, pen, and a lighter
Players can choose from three editions: Standard, Specialist, and Legacy.
007 First Light will introduce fans to a younger version of James Bond, focusing on his early days in the elite “double-0” program. This isn’t a retelling of existing stories or a rehash of movie plots. Instead, IO is crafting an entirely original narrative within the Bond universe, with no ties to past films or actors.
In a 2024 interview with IGN, IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak teased that this game is just the beginning, hinting at a planned trilogy that will follow this new Bond through his evolution as a secret agent.
With a fresh take, modern platforms, and the pedigree of IO Interactive behind it, 007 First Light is shaping up to be a bold new chapter in the James Bond legacy.
