In the aftermath of a clash between Pera Force and traders of Sarafa Bazaar, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Muhammad Usman Khalid chaired a joint meeting of citywide trader organizations and district officers.
The DC announced pardon for traders found guilty of misconduct with Pera Force during the recent dispute but warned that strict action would be taken against anyone taking the law into their own hands in the future.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner General Qudsia Naz, District Council Chief Officer Jawadul Hassan Gondal, Assistant Commissioners Nazar Hussain Korai and Taimur Usman along with presidents and office bearers of various trader organizations.
Addressing the gathering, DC Khalid allowed traders, on their request, to place goods only over covered drains and install up to 5-foot sheds in main bazaars for protection from rain and sunlight.
He directed that decisions regarding Rani Bazaar and side markets would be taken by a special committee.
The DC also warned that any violation of the agreed SOPs would invite strict action.
He instructed that in connection with the 1,500th birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), shopkeepers and residents should illuminate and decorate their businesses and homes.
