Esmeralda Ferrer Garibay, a 32-year-old Mexican influencer, with 43,000 followers, known for her lifestyle and travel content on TikTok, was tragically found dead alongside her husband, Roberto Carlos Gil Licea, 36, and their two children, Gael, 13, and Regina, 7.
The family’s bodies were discovered wrapped in plastic inside a pickup truck on August 22, 2025, in the San Andrés neighborhood of Guadalajara, Mexico.
According to prosecutor Alfonso Gutiérrez Santillán, the bodies were abandoned near a mechanic shop.
Investigators suspect the killings were a cartel-style execution, likely carried out at the auto repair shop where blood, spent bullet casings, and other ballistic evidence were recovered.
Surveillance footage helped trace the vehicle to the site.
Two men initially detained from the shop were released due to insufficient evidence but were later kidnapped by armed assailants in a coordinated attack outside the prosecutor's office.
One person escaped, and authorities are seeking their testimony.
Garibay began her presence on TikTok in April 2020 with comedic lip-sync videos and later transitioned to lifestyle and travel content.
Her final post, dated August 7, showed her driving on her ranch, and another recent post featured her dog. Her followers have since flooded her TikTok with tributes, expressing shock and grief over the tragic loss.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the family's deaths.
