The investigation into the high-profile May 9 GHQ attack case has seen its investigating officer replaced for the second time, police sources con-firmed on Monday.
The case, registered at R.A. Bazaar Police Station, names PTI founding chairman Imran Khan and other key party leaders as accused.
According to sources, Inspector Tariq Gondal has now been appointed as the new investigating officer for the GHQ attack case under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Inspector Nazim Shah, the previous second investigating officer, retired after completing his tenure, while the first officer, Mirza Javed, was re-moved from the investigation following his promotion to DSP.
Inspector Tariq Gondal, already serving as the investigating officer in two other May 9 cases, will now handle the GHQ attack case. He is also inves-tigating the attack at Waris Khan Metro Station and cases related to riot-ing, arson and vandalism at Liaquat Bagh Chowk on May 9.
Retired Inspector Nazim Abbas handed over the entire investigation rec-ord to Inspector Gondal, including the case file, list of witnesses, and rec-orded statements.
Sources added that in the upcoming jail trial hearings of the GHQ attack case, the newly appointed officer will present the complete record in court. All accused released on bail will also be formally informed through official correspondence.
